Letter from President regarding fees

December 2, 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Though the World Series just ended a month ago, it is already time to begin planning for the exciting 2010 Dubuque Little League season!  We remain the community’s largest and most viable open enrollment baseball league.  We have continued to grow in number and, by all accounts, in quality.

This year we are featuring an electronic registration process.  This system will allow Little League officials and coaches the opportunity to have important contact information for your children more readily available. A link to registration is available on the home page.

We will maintain a presence at the 2010 Greater Dubuque Sports and Recreation Festival on January 23 and will have laptop computers available for registration.  We will also provide different sizes of uniforms for show.

You will notice that league fees have increased. The registration fee comprises almost all of the revenues that directly pay our expenses.  Our main expenses are field rental, uniforms, equipment, and insurance and these have almost doubled in total during the last three years.

It is the board’s wish that only a small percentage of our sponsorship revenue go toward operating expenses. We hope to save these monies for future and inevitable capital improvements to our fields and to bolster the net worth of our scholarship monies available for families in need.   Thus, the bulk of our operating expenses must be derived from registration fees and fundraising efforts.

We wish to assure you the board is doing what they can to minimize annual operating expenses.  We have placed our uniforms up for bid to receive the lowest price possible and have adopted new internal rules concerning equipment and other purchases.

There is a scholarship fund available to help defray the registration fee for those individuals who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  Please contact a board member with questions on the procedures.

Thank you again for your commitment to Dubuque Little League.  We look forward to a great 2010 season!

Sincerely,

Matt Garrett, Ph.D.

Dubuque Little League President
